Maintaining an up to date event calendar on your website can be extremely beneficial, both to you and your visitors. Instead of relying on email blasts, Facebook events, or any other similar means of communication, WSM’s calendar module will give you a way to consolidate all important information in once place.
While a calendar feature on your site is primarily just an added convenience, it is not completely devoid of any substantial eCommerce benefits! In addition to pertinent information regarding your company, you can also use the calendar module as a kind of virtual bulletin board. Is there a cool event coming up that you think your customers might enjoy? Put it up there! Not only will site visitors appreciate you going the extra mile, you are also creating an opportunity to show up as a result when people search for that event! This has the potential to increase traffic to your site.
To add an event to your calendar:
- Go to the back end of your WSM
- Hover over Modules
- Click Calendar
- Click Add Event in the upper right hand corner
- From here you can enter all the necessary information for your event. The fields with a red star next to them are required, while the others are optional. It is always a good idea to include as much information as possible, and if there is an image that you would like to include, click Choose File in the Event Flyer field.
|Title||Name of the event.|
|Date||The date the event occurs. If it is a one day event, make sure "single day event" is checked. If it spans multiple days, uncheck the box and you can enter the end date of the event in the second "Date" box.|
|Time||Times the event will be running through. If it is an all day event, make sure the "all day event" box is checked. If not, you will have to enter the end time of the event in the second "Time" box. |
|Venue Name||Name of the event's venue, or where it takes place. This can be any name you choose, but make sure to name it something easily identifiable by people browsing your calendar section.|
|Email||The venue's email address, if there is one.|
|Address ||First address line of the venue or location the event is taking place.|
|Address 2||Second address line of the venue or location the event is taking place.|
|City||The venue or location the event is taking place in is located in.|
|State||State the event is taking place in.|
|Phone||Phone number to contact venue, or the organization setting the event up.|
|Website||Venue's website, or the website of the organization setting the event up|
|Tickets URL||URL for purchasing tickets.|
|Photos URL||URL for event photos.|
|Description||Description of event. If possible, include the name of the event and relevant keywords so your site can possibly rank in Google for the event itself!|
|Event Flyer||Optional flyer image to represent the event.|
