Emails Not Sending in Outlook

Q:  Why can I receive emails but not send them

A:  If you are using Outlook- you may need to edit your Port # for outgoing email. To do that navigate to:

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click Tools on the main menu
  3. Click Accounts or Account Settings
  4. Select the email you would like to modify
  5. Click Change link above the email list
  6. Look for "more" or "Advanced Settings" button and click it
  7. You will be taken to a pop up window
  8. Click on the Advanced Tab
  9. Set the Port # for incoming=110 for IMAP this number can be 143
  10. Set the Port # for outgoing=587
  11. Click Okay
  12. Click Next
  13. Click Finished

If you are using Outlook 2013, the first few steps will look a little different. Navigate to:

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click the File tab
  3. In the Info category, click Account Settings, and then click Account Settings in the dropdown
  4. Click More Settings
  5. Locate the Internet Email Settings dialog box and click the Advanced tab
  6. Set the Port # for incoming=110 for IMAP this number can be 143
  7. Set the Port # for outgoing=587
  8. Click Okay
  9. Click Next
  10. Click FinishedEMN

NotePort numbers are determined by Internet service providers. It is possible that if you switch to a different provider (at home versus work), you may need to change the port for outgoing back to 25.
